Three Sun Salutation Practice Sequences

with Mantras for Home Practice

Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation) is one of the most essential and foundational yoga sequences. Regular practice builds strength and vitality, and by dedicating just 11 minutes a day, it can help relieve back pain. Beyond its physical benefits, this practice promotes inner balance, mental clarity, and supports the harmonious functioning of the chakras.

In ancient yogic traditions, Surya Namaskara was an integral part of sadhana—the daily spiritual practice. Long before the beginning of the current era, Sri Rama himself is said to have practiced it.

Through its flowing asanas, Surya Namaskara embodies an universal cycle, expressing the divine qualities of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva—the sacred trinity of Creation, Preservation and Transformation.

According to ancient tradition, the sequence is performed 12 times, symbolically offering the practice to the 12 aspects of the Sun God, Surya Narayana.
